Are Instant Food Deliveries Good or Bad?

In the last couple of days, we are seeing massive competition among big brands on delivering products in the shortest possible time. In contrast, when we ask our customers to order a day before and still do not assure 100% delivery of items, it may sound strange, but yes, it's true.

Instant vs Regular is like Allopathy vs Ayurveda. Allopathy can give some instant solutions but has immense side effects in the long term. On the other hand, the ayurvedic solution may look slower, but those are sustainable and without any side effects.

Anything instant is not always good. It can be used as backup or time gap arrangements, but it will create considerable problems in the longer run. Most items ordered through instant deliveries are Junk only as natural items can not be delivered instantly. Just for the sake of advertisement purpose people show natural products but in reality, they deliver noodles, chips, biscuits and such items only.

A couple of days back, one of the instant food delivery companies surveyed what is being ordered maximum and in which time slots. The data will make you think about the instant delivery model. Garlic bread, Finger Chips & Pizzas are the most ordered food at midnight. Samosa, Pavbhaji and Gulabjamun was the maximum order items. Instant Noodle packets were sold in ready to make food category.

So imagine what was being advertised by all instant food, grocery, vegetables & fruit delivery apps and what is being delivered.

The commercial supply chain believes in hammering society with many advertisements and pushing society's thoughts to such a level that everyone will think in the direction those people want to drive. I am not against development, but we must consider what we will lose against such action?

Instant deliveries mean:

  • More fuel consumption for multiple deliveries
  • More packing material is required for numerous deliveries.
  • More plastic and non-eco-friendly stuff will be used.
  • Stocking of items means more cold storage.
  • People will become addicted to junk food, becoming lazier and lazier.
  • The value proposition is unacceptable as the Rs.10 noodle packet delivery cost might be Rs.50. This means only big companies will remain in the race, and all small businesses will die eventually.

So give a thought to what we are going to lose. Also, think about our upcoming generations. We lost all desi variants in advanced agriculture and welcomed life-threatening diseases in just 40 years of progressive agriculture. We choose the cheapest possible over the healthier one, and now we are buying all-natural products from identical commercial houses at more price.

So today, they will give you the cheapest possible option and close down all other reasonable choices. Tomorrow they will tell you the story about how unhealthy it was to choose that most affordable, viable option. Then they will introduce high-cost alternatives and push you to opt for the same.

Yes, this has happened with us once. When cow dung was readily available, they pushed farmers to choose the Urea. After 40 years now same people are telling us how bad is chemical farming and moving to organic alternatives.

Let's not get fooled once again and choose the wise option.

Choose Fair Trade over any other Products.

Fair Trade means honest marketing. Fair Trade means empowering farmers and artisans.
