What is Fair Trade?
Shop for Change Fair Trade is a not-for-profit organisation established in January 2009 and incubated by the European Union &Traidcraft UK, with a mission to harness the power of markets to improve the livelihoods and working conditions of poor farmers and artisans across India.
The main objective of Shop for Change Fair Trade was Fair Trade certification. In 2015 when Saameer & Vrushalii took charge of Shop for Change Fair Trade, they decided to take this cause to ground level. Instead of focusing on Fair Trade certification, they decided to develop a real-time Fair Trade Supply chain. However, it was challenging as the commercial supply chain was not ready to adopt the Fair Trade guidelines. Hence after sweating on the ground for more than four years, they decided to set up their own Fair Trade Trading arm, which will follow all Fair Trade guidelines 100%%. In 2019, Shop for Change Fair Trade set up their first Fair Trade trading arm, 5 Aharatattva for Healthy Lifestyle Foods Retail Private Limited.

Fair Trade is a value supply chain created keeping farmer and consumer as main objective and profit as secondary. Honest marketing, transparency, Gender Equality, Fair Prices are a few basic pivots of Fair Trade. To make it more straightforward, in the old days, Indians followed the barter system that system was based on needs and not on Greed; similarly, Fair Trade is based on needs and not on Greed.
Unlike the market, we allow farmers to calculate their production cost, add their profit, and develop final pricing for any product. In comparison, the commercial market is driven by a supply-demand mechanism.
We strongly believe in honest marketing hence we only promote those products which our family and we can consume.
Unlike other commercial supply chains, we are not selling just for profits. Still, we are committed to sourcing every product directly from farmers; although having a good consumer base, we can sell any product which is getting sold.
We can proudly claim that we directly work with 2000 farmers & indirectly 10,000 farmers, including women and tribal farmers.
Every product you purchase from our online store help us empower farmer families.
